About me
I’m a UX/UI Designer with a passion for creating user-first products that provide meaningful experiences.
My Background
Before my journey to UX design, I was a teacher for almost ten years. I taught elementary school and was truly inspired by the impact I was able to make in others' lives. I also have a background in psychology, working day-to-day with user’s behaviors and addressing their needs. I have always had a strong passion for design and dreamed of the day I transitioned.
Skills That Led Me To UX/UI Design
As a teacher, you have many of the same skills that design careers require. You need a high sense of creativity and problem-solving skills, to address other people's concerns, and even alter assignments to meet the needs of each user. As an educator, you are meeting the needs of a wide range of ages. I worked with grade-level teams on a day-to-day basis to ensure we were pinpointing the educational needs and the state requirements. On top of those things, we were also ensuring high satisfaction rates were met as teachers, as a district, and for our students.
he design career path has always been one that I wanted to take. I struggled for years to find exactly which direction was the right one for me. One day I came across the term UX design. I spent countless hours researching, attending webinars on the topic, and educating myself on all things UX design. I continued to study ways to teach myself and came across Designlab. I began by taking the UX Fundamentals course to see firsthand if this was the correct path for me. I immediately fell in love with UX design. I proceeded with UX Academy and continued to develop myself as a designer. Many of the skills I had acquired previously such as; a higher sense of creativity, problem-solving skills, addressing other’s concerns, and even altering assignments to meet the needs of each user have been skills I have used during Phase 1 and throughout the process. This year of teaching, I was awarded the True Blue award for the district for my ability to perform these skills above my peers. I feel that these skills have led me to succeed in my journey through UX/ UI design. They reminded me to think outside the box creatively, expand my thinking, and remember to always focus on how the product will affect the user.
